For Stone Temple Pilots, the show goes on with Jeff Gutt as their new frontman. After his death, Stone Temple Pilots issued a statement, thanking him for his time with them despite the split and that he was “gifted beyond words”. Also in 2015, the former frontman of the band, Scott Weiland, was found dead on December 3rd due to an overdose caused by a mix of drugs and alcohol while on his bus tour in Minnesota. With Weiland no longer part of the lineup, Chester Bennington of Linkin’ Park offered his one and only vocal talent to Stone Temple Pilot’s 2013 EP (High Rise) before opting out to stick with Linkin’ Park in 2015. This split led to a lawsuit, which was ultimately decided the three remaining members of Kretz and the DeLeo brothers have the legal right to continue using the band name of Stone Temple Pilots. The core members of the band remained together until February 27, 2013, when it was publicly announced Scott Weiland was fired by his bandmates as he went on tour with his solo band. It wasn’t until 2008 when Stone Temple Pilots reunited to do a reunion tour did they decide to go back to the recording studio and pick up where they left off as a band. Their success as a band continued until 2003 as each band member opted to pursue individual interests as performers. Briefly replacing him was Linkin’ Park’s Chester Bennington until 2015. Hailing from San Diego, California, the band’s primary roster remained unchanged until Weiland was fired in 2013. In 1989, lead vocalist Scott Weiland, brothers Dean DeLeo (guitarist) and Robert DeLeo (bassist), and Eric Kretz drummer) formed the American alternative hard rock band known as Stone Temple Pilots.
